Visiting Professor Dr. Amanda Thomas Wins PECASE Award
Dr. Amanda Thomas, a visiting professor in the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences at UC Davis, has just been awarded the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers (PECASE) — one of the highest honors the U.S. government can bestow on early-career scientists. Presented by President Joe Biden, the award recognizes Dr. Thomas’s groundbreaking work in geophysics using a variety of tools from seismic and geodetic data to unravel the complexities of active tectonics and Earth processes- in other words, she's advancing understanding of how the planet moves and behaves at its most fundamental levels.
The PECASE award highlights Dr. Thomas’s significant contributions to the field of geophysics and her potential to continue making meaningful advancements in Earth science. This recognition builds on her previous accomplishments, which include a National Science Foundation CAREER Award, a 2022 National Academy of Sciences Kavli Fellowship, and years of research focused on advancing our understanding of active tectonics and Earth processes.
Dr. Thomas completed her National Science Foundation postdoctoral fellowship at Stanford University. She received her Ph.D. in Geophysics from the UC Berkeley and her B.S. in Civil Engineering from Georgia Tech.
