Dr. Sandra Carlson receives William B. Heroy Jr. Award for Distinguished Service to AGI

The Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences is pleased to share that Dr. Sandra J. Carlson, Professor Emerita of Paleontology at UC Davis, has been named the 2026 recipient of the American Geosciences Institute's (AGI) William B. Heroy Jr. Award for Distinguished Service.

The Heroy Award recognizes individuals whose long-term service has made exceptional contributions to AGI and the broader geoscience community. Carlson was honored for her leadership, financial stewardship, program development, and commitment to advancing the geosciences through service and collaboration.

"It is truly an honor and a privilege to have been chosen as the recipient of the 2026 AGI Heroy Award," Carlson said. 

Carlson's distinguished career includes leadership roles within the Paleontological Society, where she completed a six-year presidential cycle and was recognized as a Centennial Fellow. Her contributions have also been recognized by the Association for Women Geoscientists and the Paleontological Research Institution.
