Dr. Claire McKinley is from Portland, Oregon and developed her love of Earth Sciences as a High School volunteer with Portland’s Outdoor School Program. She graduated with a B.A. in Earth Sciences from Boston University (2012) and a PhD in Oceanography from Texas A&M (2018). She was a Postdoctoral Scholar at the University of Washington’s School of Oceanography before coming to Davis. Dr. McKinley is passionate scientist and educator whose work encompasses two distinct but related areas: Investigating how the interrelationships between sediment and seawater chemistry influence past and present ocean conditions, especially the ocean’s role in past climate, and developing best practices for increasing access and persistence in geoscience for American Indian and Alaska Native students as a model for increasing diversity.
