Reasons to Apply for Transcript Notation
Transcript Notation is a valuable way to document any internships that you experience during your attendance at UC Davis. It is not required; however, there are several good reasons to apply:
- Confirms legitimacy of internship/co-op
- If ever applying to graduate school, applicants do not forward resume with application; only transcript
- Some companies don't allow recommendations since it is against company policy (lawsuits, legal issues, etc.)
- Creates a good record so that the ICC Coordinator can relate TN performance to future/potential employers on student's behalf, if necessary
- Proposal gives intern and supervisors an opportunity to set up goals/duties/expectations
- Supervisors change jobs/relocate/quit; companies go out of business; Transcript Notation becomes the only detailed, qualitative record
- TN may refresh a supervisor's memory when asking supervisor to serve as a reference
- Students can review their own TN report to prepare for interviews. They will be prepared to give detailed, thoughtful examples of how the experience affected the student's professional growth
- Student can demonstrate their real-world application of theory learned in school
- Student is not necessarily an actual employee and may not have a Personnel File with company
Note that Transcript Notation is not considered towards academic progress. Please contact your department and a faculty advisor for accreditation of an internship.
